Leipzig (AP) - Bundesliga club RB Leipzig has prematurely extended the contract with Willi Orban.

As the club announced on Friday, the 28-year-old central defender, who has been part of the team since 2015, has signed a new contract until June 30, 2025.

In addition, Orban receives a follow-up contract that binds him to the club after the end of his active career.

«Willi has played a major role in our successful path over the years and this season has again proven how important he is for our team.

He is making good progress on the pitch and is also an important part of our team in the dressing room, ”said RB sports director Markus Krösche in a club announcement.

He also referred to Orban as an "important identification figure" for the RB fans.

«Since I came in 2015, an incredible amount has happened in the entire club and we are still a long way from the end.

We still have big plans and I want to help achieve our goals, ”said Orban.
