Erfurt (dpa / th) - In the pandemic year 2020, taxpayers in Thuringia again waited the longest in a national comparison for their income tax assessment.

According to an evaluation published by the Federation of Taxpayers on Thursday, they received their annual tax assessment after a processing time of 62 days on average.

That was almost four days more than in 2019, when Thuringia, according to the association, was also bottom of the list among the federal states.

In 2020, the processing time was 25 days between the slowest federal state and the front runner Berlin, where a tax assessment was ready after an average of 37 days.

According to the Taxpayers' Association, Thuringia is the only federal state in which the processing time of tax documents in the tax offices has been extended in the first year of the corona pandemic.

In other countries it has been shortened considerably in some cases.

With the exception of North Rhine-Westphalia, the taxpayers' association had data from all federal states available for analysis.

Thuringia performed worst both in the processing of the tax returns of employees and in that of the self-employed, freelancers and companies.

The taxpayers' association sees a great need for improvement here.

The service of the financial administration is also one of the location factors that are important for companies, he explained.
