About two dozen monkeys broke out of a zoo in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district.

As the police announced on Thursday, current construction work in the park in Löffingen may be the reason that the primates discovered a way out of their enclosure.

Employees of the zoo were able to bring the animals back safely after a few hours.

The animals were initially in packs in the direction of the district of Dittishausen and had used the good weather in the vicinity of the zoo near the edge of the forest and spent the afternoon there.

There have been no harmful events or dangerous situations.

The primates are said to be harmless, shy and fearful.
