Kiel (dpa / lno) - SPD federal vice Serpil Midyatli has sharply criticized the actions of Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) in the corona pandemic.

"The planned amendment to the Infection Protection Act shows that Angela Merkel no longer has the CDU Prime Minister under control," said Midyatli on Friday in Kiel.

"The Chancellor is very much to blame for the current situation."

For example, Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) has slowed down the procurement of vaccines and delayed the widespread introduction of rapid tests.

"The failure of the last Prime Minister's Conference is largely due to her."

The federal government should concentrate, within the scope of the existing competencies, on procuring sufficient vaccine and delivering the promised rapid tests, said Midyatli, who is the SPD state chairman in Schleswig-Holstein.

Economic aid should also come faster.

Midyatli reprimanded different signals from the Union camp: While Saarland's Prime Minister Tobias Hans spoke about openings instead of the emergency brake within seven days of just under 100 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants, Bavaria's Markus Söder, Merkel and CDU leader Armin Laschet called for a nationwide lockdown.

This in turn would also affect Schleswig-Holstein with its relatively low corona numbers.

"But the Union must clarify this problem internally," said Midyatli.

"There is no need to change the Infection Protection Act."
