Potsdam (dpa / bb) - In Brandenburg, certain medical practices are now allowed to vaccinate Astrazeneca's corona vaccine even for over 60-year-olds without previous illnesses.

The Ministry of the Interior and the Brandenburg Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians announced on Friday that this had been approved for individual cases in the 217 model practices across the country that obtain the Astrazeneca vaccine from the state.

Otherwise, only people over 70 and other people in priority group 2 may continue to be vaccinated in Brandenburg.

This also applies to the vaccination started on Wednesday in other medical practices.

The model practices should address their patients and assign appointments, emphasized KVBB boss Peter Noack.

“The colleagues know their patients and know best for whom Astrazeneca is well suited,” he said.

"We ask all citizens to refrain from active inquiries in the practices so as not to disrupt the practice processes."

Interior Minister Michael Stübgen (CDU) said that the first vaccinations with the active ingredient from Astrazeneca should be relocated to general practitioners' practices.

Due to the continuing shortage of vaccines, however, not all Brandenburgers over 60 years of age can be offered an immediate vaccination offer.

"There are still many over seventy-year-olds without a vaccination who continue to receive priority," emphasized Stübgen.
