Rostock (dpa / mv) - The number of corona infections has skyrocketed a few days after Easter in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

The State Office for Health and Social Affairs (Lagus) in Rostock reported 433 detected new infections on Wednesday after 436 the day before.

A week ago, 303 new infections were reported.

The state office also reported eleven deaths in connection with a Covid 19 infection, bringing the total number of fatalities in the pandemic to 897.

For the first time in several weeks, the number of newly reported deaths was in double digits again.

With reference to the reduced number of corona tests over Easter, doctors had predicted the significant increase in detected infections after the holidays.

Daily values ​​of more than 400 new infections had already been reported in isolated cases in December and January.

The third corona wave has arrived in the hospitals: The state office reported 299 Covid patients in the clinics on Thursday, 26 more than a week ago.

There were 82 corona patients in the intensive care units, 9 more than a week ago.

A month ago, on March 8, 255 corona patients were in the clinics, 47 of whom were treated in intensive care units.

When it comes to vaccination, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has slipped to last place.

According to the office, 12.5 percent of the population received their first corona vaccination.

In penultimate place is Saxony with a value of 12.8 percent and Bremen in first place with 16.5 percent.

Almost 5.3 percent now have complete vaccination protection in the northeast.

On Thursday, 7651 vaccine doses were reportedly given.

The total number of corona infections detected so far in the northeast rose to 32,770. Around 28,517 people are considered to have recovered.

The incidence continued to rise nationwide to 95.1 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days, 6.6 more than the previous day.

At 161.6, the value was again highest in the Mecklenburg Lake District, followed by the Ludwigslust-Parchim district with 128.4.

The incidence was lowest in the district of Vorpommern-Rügen, for which a seven-day incidence of 52.5 was calculated.
