Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the Iranian government had released the Korean ship Kemiho and its crew, which had been detained.

It is 95 days after the Iranian Revolutionary Guard captured the Korean Kemi, sailing the coast near Oman in the Strait of Hormuz on January 4th.

The Korean Kemi ship departed from the field at 10:20 a.m. today (9th) our time, and the crew was in good health and the ship was in good condition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

Earlier, on February 2, Iran allowed the release of crew members except for the ship and the captain, and some crew members stayed there without returning for reasons such as ship management.

The Iranian side is known to have failed to provide evidence of the environmental pollution it had disclosed as a reason for the arrest.

Both governments have not officially acknowledged, but the analysis was strong that the reason for the arrest was the frozen funds worth 7.6 trillion won, which have been tied to domestic banks since 2010 due to US sanctions.

While Iran's official position has not been released, observations are being made that the release of ships and crew members is related to the resolution of the frozen fund problem.

The Korean government has been discussing with the United States on ways to utilize Swiss humanitarian trade channels to resolve the frozen fund problem.
