Last night, another truck drove into the railway bridge in Eskilstuna.

Something that caused a total stop on the road for several hours.

After several trips, it is now clear that the municipality will build a physical obstacle, two pillars on each side of the road and an overhanging beam on top, which will prevent trucks higher than 3.6 meters from driving into the bridge.

A similar obstacle exists today at the railway bridge on Tullgatan at Rinmansskolan.

Municipality and state must share the cost

The municipality is responsible for the road affected by the accident, but the Swedish Transport Administration is responsible for the railway and the bridge over which the trains roll.

The municipality of Eskilstuna therefore turned to the state authority and an agreement on shared costs is expected to be signed in the coming weeks.

- The bridge can actually be driven in by truck, but as it often leads to stopped train traffic, the Swedish Transport Administration is just as interested in getting this fixed as we are.

It also costs money for the municipality as the rescue service has to pull the car off, says Ulf Westerberg (M), vice chairman of the city planning committee.

Can be ready in September

The municipality and the Swedish Transport Administration agree to share the costs.

Now only small details remain in the agreement.

- We will start designing as soon as the agreement is in place and a guess is that the obstacle will be ready in September, says Anders Enesved, head of department at the city building administration in Eskilstuna municipality.
