"The discussion of the situation around Nagorno-Karabakh, its further stabilization, in accordance with the statements of the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia of November 9, 2020 and January 11, 2021, was continued," the message says.

In particular, the parties substantively considered the issues of ensuring peace, security and progressive socio-economic development of the region, as well as the progress of work on the restoration of transport communications.

During the talks, Putin and Aliyev took into account the results of the Russian-Armenian summit talks held on April 7 in Moscow. 

The presidents also agreed to intensify contacts in various formats.

Earlier, Putin held a meeting in Moscow with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

At the meeting, Pashinyan stated that the presence of Russian peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh is an important security factor in the region.
