Halle (dpa / sa) - Seven young people from Saxony-Anhalt have qualified for the national youth research competition.

The Youth Research Foundation announced on Thursday that 23 projects by 29 young researchers were presented as part of the state competition.

Among the winners is Johannes Lodahl from the Martineum Gymnasium in Halberstadt (Harz district).

The 18-year-old has developed a new type of on-board computer for motorcyclists that is integrated into the helmet and can use sensors to display temperature and navigation data via an associated smartphone app.

Amelie Dybus from the Pforta State School in Naumburg (Burgendlandkreis) subjected various types of wheat to a molecular biological examination.

The 15-year-old was able to identify characteristics that can guarantee high crop yields despite climate change.

The grand finale of the 56th national youth research competition will take place from May 26th to 30th - just like the state decisions as an online event.
