Rosenheim (dpa / lby) - The plans for a possible new railway line in the Inn Valley towards Brenner are making progress.

Deutsche Bahn wants to present a specific recommendation for the route next Tuesday.

In addition to Bavaria's rail boss Klaus-Dieter Josel and overall project manager Matthias Neumaier, Federal Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer (CSU) also takes part in the virtual press conference.

There are currently four possible route variants on the table.

A preliminary planning should then be created for the final selection;

politics then decide on the implementation.

So far it has not been conclusively proven whether there is a need for the mega project.

Citizens' initiatives have been bracing themselves against the project for years.

The so-called Brenner northern inlet is intended to expand the capacities of the Brenner Base Tunnel, which is being built in Italy and Austria.

This should mean that more goods will be on the rails from around 2030 onwards.
