Hamburg (dpa) - The philosopher and former Minister of State for Culture Julian Nida-Rümelin has pleaded for museums, operas and theaters to be opened despite the corona pandemic.

If museums do not contribute to the infection process, it is not the wrong signal to reopen them.

He therefore welcomes every step of the opening process.
Nida-Rümelin emphasized that incidence should no longer be the sole criterion for progress in combating pandemics.
Rather, the focus should be on hospital occupancies and deaths.
"These are the two relevant criteria that you have to keep in mind, not incidence," said Nida-Rümelin with a view to Israel, where hospital occupations and deaths have fallen sharply despite the sometimes high incidence with the vaccinations.
He was supported by the Hamburg virologist Prof. Jonas Schmidt-Chanasit, who confirmed Nida-Rümelin's theses.

The corona pandemic must also be a wake-up call for "how we want to live in the future, how we deal with nature".
Much more needs to be done for health care and prevention.
