Berlin (dpa / bb) - After the violent death of a Berlin pastor, the trial against two men begins today at the regional court of the capital.

The charges against the two 21- and 24-year-olds are murder.

They are accused of having killed the 77-year-old out of greed and with the intention of hiding.

According to the investigation, the victim was allegedly robbed, beaten and suffocated with a pillow.

The theologian, who is also said to have been involved in AIDS relief, was discovered dead in his Moabit apartment on July 4, 2020.

At the time, the fire brigade and police were alerted by residents of the apartment building because they had not seen the man for several days.

The defendants are said to have fled to their home country Romania, where they were arrested in August and September 2020, respectively.

17 negotiation days are scheduled for the process until the end of June.
