Nördlingen (dpa / lby) - The police have again warned of false parcel notifications via SMS.

A large number of reports of fraudulent news have been received in the Nördlingen area in the past few days, as the police announced on Thursday.

Not only in Bavaria, but also throughout Germany, the scam has been spreading rapidly since the beginning of the year.

It concerns alleged orders and a link for shipment tracking.

If you click on the link in the SMS, you could even become the sender of such messages yourself, said a police spokesman.

If the link is used, malware will be installed on the affected cell phone.

Then an average of around 200 SMS would then be sent via their own cell phone.

What the malware could do on the smartphone has not yet been conclusively clarified, it said.

The best protection is to delete the message and under no circumstances click on the link.
