Schwerin (dpa / mv) - Before the vaccination summit planned for Friday by the state government with representatives of the municipalities and medical associations, the left in the state parliament demanded significant course corrections.

His group expects "clear stipulations for a significant acceleration of vaccination, a smooth distribution of the existing vaccine and transparent and reliable communication to the outside," said the health policy spokesman for the left-wing group, Torsten Koplin, on Thursday in Schwerin.

The recent vaccination summit is long overdue.

Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) watched for weeks as Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania slipped into the nation's vaccination cellar.

"Appointments are still not satisfactory, tens of thousands of people over the age of 80 are still not vaccinated," complained Koplin.

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has received 374,000 vaccine doses so far, but only vaccinated 269,000.

After a good start with the corona vaccinations at the beginning of the year, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is now in one of the last places in a country comparison.

While 12.5 percent of the population in the north-east has been vaccinated at least once, the proportion in the neighboring state of Schleswig-Holstein is 15.8 percent and the national average is 13.8 percent.

Even with the drastic reduction in the safety reserves for the required second vaccinations, the country could not make up any ground.

Schwerin's Mayor Rico Badenschier (SPD) asked Health Minister Harry Glawe (CDU) to present a realistic assessment of the corona situation in the country with a correct incidence at the vaccination summit.

"If most of the measures to contain the pandemic are based on the incidence figures, then these numbers must also be correct," said Badenschier.

He aimed at infection reports from the district of Vorpommern-Greifswald, which, according to critics, are often forwarded with a delay of days and thus distort the picture of the situation throughout the country.

"This is also about the credibility of our Corona measures: Because only on the basis of realistic figures can we advise the state government responsibly and in a way that is understandable for the population about coping with the third wave of infections," emphasized Badenschier.
