Germany intends to discuss a possible purchase order for the Sputnik vaccine with Russia.

This was announced by the Minister of Health, Jens Spahn, explaining that the finalization of the order will be subject to the approval of the preparation by the EMA.

"I explained on behalf of Germany to the EU Council of Health Ministers - he said speaking on public radio WDR - that we will have bilateral discussions with Russia, first of all to find out when they could deliver the doses and in what quantities".

Spahn motivated this step with the decision of the European Commission not to negotiate a possible purchase of Sputnik on behalf of the 27.

Yesterday the same decision to negotiate directly with Russia for the purchase of the vaccine was announced by the regional state of Bavaria.

Brussels: new contracts?

Useless for 2021

"Although he has no reason to doubt the potential efficacy, safety and quality of vaccines developed outside the EU, it is an issue that the European Medicines Agency must evaluate".

This was stated by European Commissioner Thierry Breton who heads the task force for the production of vaccines, with particular reference to the Russian Sputnik vaccine and the Chinese ones.

"Whenever I have been asked to comment on these vaccines, I have done so from an industrial perspective: can they add to Europe's vaccine portfolio and increase our immunity target for summer 2021? "he explains.

"Any company wishing to start producing a new vaccine will need at least ten months. So none of these new vaccines would be able to deliver doses before the end of the year. That's why we need to focus our European industrial production efforts on vaccines. that are already authorized or are in the process of being authorized ", concludes Breton.

De Luca: Sputnik?

We sleep on our feet, Aifa decides within 2 weeks

"Sputnik? We have signed a contract in respect of which we have heard a whole series of nonsense even in the newspapers. It is an absolutely correct contract within the scope of the powers that the Campania Region has. The Regions cannot move within the framework of the 4 vaccines contracted by Europe, for the rest the Region can do what it wants ".

This was clarified by the president of the Campania Region, Vincenzo De Luca, from Sant'Angelo dei Lombardi (Avellino), where the second regional public center for autism started, answering a question on the state of the art of the agreement between the Region and Russian vaccine suppliers.

"The Region - continues De Luca - has made a real contract with the Sputnik manufacturer, this contract makes its execution subject to the approval of the vaccine. What is not clear is why we still sleep on our feet today, because the "Aifa does not decide within two weeks if this vaccine is good or not. When Aifa evaluated Pfizer it did it in two weeks, we do the same thing with this vaccine. If we have 3 million additional doses to those of the" Europe it is clear that within three months we will come out of the ordeal ".
