Beelitz (dpa / bb) - Despite the cold, farmers in Brandenburg are increasingly harvesting asparagus.

"We are very surprised ourselves," said Jürgen Jakobs from the Beelitzer Asparagus Association at the official start of the asparagus season on Thursday on the RBB information radio.

Currently, around 20,000 kilograms are being harvested per day in the 1500 to 1700 hectare region.

According to Jakobs, the harvest has been running since April 1st.

For the weekend there will be asparagus almost everywhere, he announced.

The stalls opened and the popular vegetables will be available in shops.

However, this is only possible thanks to the hoods in the field, with which the asparagus is faked "living room temperature".
