Rostock (dpa) - The cruise operator Aida Cruises has canceled its Mediterranean trips planned for mid-May to early June due to the corona pandemic.

Instead, the "Aidaperla" will make three trips around the Canary Islands from Las Palmas on Gran Canaria, the company announced on Thursday in Rostock.

The "Aidaperla" has been the only ship in the fleet with a significantly reduced number of passengers since mid-March.

The Canary Islands have been one of the few holiday destinations in Europe with consistently low incidence values for many months, it said.

The company offered its Mediterranean passengers to rebook on one of the Canary Islands trips or a later trip.

The health and hygiene concept on board the "Aidaperla" included a PCR test before arrival, regular health checks, extensive AHA rules and medical care including test capacities on board.
