When it comes to corona infections, there are serious differences between Hamburg's 104 districts.

Accordingly, the average incidence in some districts rose to more than 250 in March 2021, while it remained below 50 in other districts of the 1.8 million-inhabitant metropolis.

This was the result of a research by the “Hamburg Journal” on NDR television.

The figures come from the social welfare authority and the North Statistics Office, which the “Hamburg Journal” has evaluated.

They are based on the officially determined infections and the place of residence of the infected.

According to the information, similar differences are also evident throughout the course of the pandemic: In some parts of the city - in relation to the respective number of inhabitants - up to six times more residents were infected than in other parts of the city.

On the Veddel, for example, the average weekly incidence in November 2020 was more than 500, which was due to a corona outbreak in the district school with around 100 infected children and teachers.

But also in March of this year the average incidence was more than 300, in neighboring Wilhelmsburg more than 250. In the districts of Eimsbüttel and Niendorf, on the other hand, as of March 23, it was both below 60.

Health and money are related

Social associations assume that one reason lies in the social structure, which has been evident from social monitoring for years.

Health and money are therefore connected.

Those who have less money are generally sicker and have a significantly lower life expectancy.

According to the Paritätische Wohlfahrtsverband, this social gap appears to be confirmed in the pandemic.

According to the further information, there are also differences in working and living conditions.

People with rather low incomes worked more often in production and service occupations and could therefore work from home less often.

In addition, those citizens often lived with more people in fewer square meters.

Lack of education and language barriers

A lack of education and language barriers could also be the cause of the serious differences in corona infections in the Hamburg districts.

The Social Association of Germany and the Left called on the red-green Senate to send so-called Corona guides directly to the city districts.

The CDU, in turn, considers additional free test offers in parts of the city with many infections to be useful.

Currently, 306 new corona infections were detected throughout Hamburg on Wednesday.

That is two cases more than on Tuesday, but 286 fewer than on Wednesday a week ago, as the health authority announced.

The seven-day incidence, i.e. the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days, fell from 149.6 to 134.7.

On Wednesday a week ago, the value was 163.7.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) pointed out, however, that around the Easter holidays, usually fewer people went to a doctor, which meant that fewer tests were carried out and therefore fewer pathogens were reported to the responsible health authorities.

Almost 1,400 dead in Hamburg

According to the health authority, 305 corona patients were treated in the Hamburg clinics as of Tuesday, 102 of them in intensive care units.

That was 46 or eleven more than last Saturday when numbers were last reported.

The RKI gave the number of people who died of or with Corona in Hamburg unchanged at 1398.

In the meantime, Hamburg's family doctors have started corona vaccinations.

"It has already been vaccinated today," said the spokesman for the Hamburg Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KVHH), Jochen Kriens.

An estimated 20,000 vaccine doses should have been delivered to the practices of the 1,200 family doctors in Hamburg since Tuesday.

Nationwide, 940,000 cans from the manufacturer Biontech / Pfizer were expected this week.

The vaccination prioritization stipulates that currently mainly people over 75 years of age are vaccinated.

Companies should offer employees rapid tests

In addition, Hamburg companies should be able to offer their employees quick corona tests and self-tests and issue certificates of the results.

Such proof of a negative result, which is valid for twelve hours, could entitle employees to use certain services, said the health authority.

So far, a negative test result in Hamburg is required for a visit to the hairdresser, for example.
