Kiel (AP) - The handball players of the THW Kiel are in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

The defending champion won the second leg of the round of 16 against the Hungarian representative Pick Szeged on Wednesday in his own hall with 33:28 (18:15).

The "Zebras" had already won the first leg with 33:28.

The best throwers in the second duel were Sander Sagosen with nine goals for Kiel and Bogdan Radivojevic with seven goals for Szeged.

The Hungarians started courageously, leading 5: 3 in the ninth minute.

The Kiel counterattacked with five hits in a row and got the game visibly better under control.

After the break, THW coach Filip Jicha relied on the seventh field player, and the hosts increased the lead with a 3-0 run to 21:15 (33rd).

Progress was thus assured.

Ten minutes before the end, the THW reservists came into action.

The Kiel opponent for the quarter-finals on May 12th and 19th will be determined on Thursday between Paris Saint-Germain and RK Celje.

The French champions won the first leg against the Slovenian title holder 37:24.

The SG Flensburg-Handewitt, which had reached the round of the best eight European club teams without a fight, meets Aalborg HB there.

The Danes prevailed against FC Porto on Wednesday.
