The spread of infection is increasing very rapidly throughout the county, with the exception of Enköping and Östhammar.
One of the factors behind this is that almost all cases in the region are the British variant of the virus.
A variant that is more than twice as contagious as the variant that was most common in Sweden before.
- There is an increase both in the number of cases per inhabitant but also in terms of the proportion of positive test results.
So there is a sharp increase in infection in almost the entire region, says Mats Martinell, medical management manager at the sampling unit.
Extra check on South African variant
Somewhere between five and ten percent of the cases in Uppsala are the South African variant B 1351. The rest is British.
The infection control and traces of infection keep an extra eye on the South African variant because there are suspicions that the vaccine does not protect as well against it.
