Rostock (dpa / mv) - The number of corona infections has shot up again a few days after Easter in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

The State Office for Health and Social Affairs (Lagus) in Rostock reported 436 detected new infections on Wednesday.

That was two and a half times as many as on Tuesday and 148 more than on Wednesday a week ago.

Doctors had predicted the significant increase with reference to the reduced number of corona tests over Easter.

Daily values of more than 400 new infections had already been reported in isolated cases in December and January.

The total number of corona infections detected so far in the northeast rose to 32,339. Around 28,200 people are considered to have recovered.

The number of corona patients treated in clinics rose by 9 to 314 on the previous day. Of these, 81 were in intensive care units, one less than on Tuesday.

Seven other people died in connection with coronavirus infection, bringing the number of deaths in the country to 887, according to Lagus.

The so-called seven-day incidence rose after a recent downward trend compared to the previous day by 12.0 to now 88.6 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within one week.

At 141.4, the value was again highest in the Mecklenburg Lake District, followed by Ludwigslust-Parchim with 109.1 and Western Pomerania-Greifswald with 100.6.

The incidence was lowest in the district of Vorpommern-Rügen, for which 44.1 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants were calculated within one week.

On Tuesday, almost 8,000 doses of the corona vaccines were administered in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

According to the data from the Lagus, there have been around 270,000 corona vaccinations in the country since the campaign began at the end of December.

Almost 187,000 people have been vaccinated, 82,000 of them would also receive the required second vaccination.

The vaccination rate was reportedly 11.6 and 5.1 percent, respectively.

This means that Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania continues to lag behind in a comparison of the federal states.
