Bad Hersfeld (dpa / lhe) - An unknown man has crossed train tracks in Bad Hersfeld and thus forced a train to fully brake.

On Tuesday lunchtime, the man illegally ran on the railway line between a discounter and a bike path, as the police announced in Kassel on Wednesday.

According to the train driver, the man fell and stayed on the tracks for a short time.

The regional train immediately initiated an emergency stop.

The passengers on the train were unharmed.

The rapid reaction of the train driver prevented the man from being run over, the police said.

The stranger got up and fled.

He lost a six-pack with drinks and other groceries that he had apparently bought beforehand.

According to the police, it is a man between 60 and 65 years of age.

He is being investigated on suspicion of "dangerous interference with rail traffic".
