Frankfurt / Main (dpa) - Lufthansa and Airbus are equipping an A350 airliner into a climate research jet.

The core is a 1.6-ton measuring container that will record around 100 different trace gases, aerosol and cloud parameters on selected passenger flights from the end of the year.

As Lufthansa announced, renovation work has started in Malta to install an air inlet system on the fuselage of the “Erfurt” aircraft.

The measured values from the tropopause region between nine and twelve kilometers in height should contribute to better research into the greenhouse effect.
