Tuesday evening, the political movement created by Emmanuel Macron, La République en Marche (LREM), celebrated its five years of existence.

The meeting, organized remotely, was marked by speeches by Édouard Philippe, Christophe Castaner and Jean Castex.

But the head of state, he did not speak to the 400,000 members claimed by the party, a sign that the training is not at best.

"Good evening everyone. Welcome to this exceptional digital meeting", proclaims Maud Bregeon, spokesperson for LREM, in front of a wall of images, alongside Mounir Mahjoubi.

Tuesday evening, La République En Marche celebrated its 5th anniversary.

The party claims more than 400,000 members and has 268 deputies but it still seems to be struggling to find its place.

So we have to display the image of a movement united together.

But Tuesday evening, an absence was particularly noticeable: that of Emmanuel Macron.

The movement is still struggling to find its place

Five years therefore, and still such a complicated place in the French political landscape.

Tuesday evening, during this Zoom meeting, the future of the political movement created by Emmanuel Macron is at the heart of the discussions.

And for the former boss, Christophe Castaner, LREM does not represent the majority on its own.

"LREM must be one of the elements of a presidential majority that reaches out and brings people together," he said.

And this outstretched hand goes straight towards Édouard Philippe.

The former prime minister has always kept his distance from the movement, but he still had prepared a small video for the occasion.

"I had mentioned partisan commitment… It might seem strange that I brought up this subject because I was not a member of En Marche at the time," said the former Prime Minister.

Before adding, smile: "I still am not!"

A party without the boss

His successor to Matignon also sent a video to add his stone to the edifice of this great gathering.

“Exceeding… What a beautiful word promoted by Emmanuel Macron!” Exclaims Jean Castex.

But an absence was felt Tuesday evening.

That, precisely, of the President of the Republic.

Emmanuel Macron did not wish to celebrate the movement which, at the beginning, bore his initials.

Some will find there confirmation that his next campaign is being prepared… without LREM.
