Sources revealed to Reuters today that the administration of US President Joe Biden intends to provide US aid worth about $ 150 million to the Palestinians, to resume providing part of the aid canceled by former President Donald Trump.

Today, the US State Department is expected to announce the aid, most of which will be provided through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).

According to observers, this step comes as part of efforts to repair US relations with the Palestinians, which nearly collapsed during Trump's rule.

The Biden administration has made clear that it intends to roll back parts of Trump's approach, which the Palestinians have denounced as being strongly biased towards Israel.

The Biden Campaign 2020 website had stated that it would provide "humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people," but did not directly mention UNRWA.

In 2019, the United Nations General Assembly voted overwhelmingly to renew UNRWA's mandate for another 3 years, with the approval of 169 countries, with 9 abstaining from the vote.

The United States and Israel voted against the renewal.

Founded in 1949, UNRWA is responsible for providing assistance, education and protection to Palestinian refugees, in addition to health services.
