“The PRAC Safety Committee today concluded that unusual blood clots with a low platelet count should be listed as rare side effects of the Vaxzevria vaccine (formerly known as the AstraZeneca vaccine),” the EMA said.

The regulator also reminded doctors and patients of the potential for "very rare cases of blood clots" after vaccination with this vaccine.

The EMA stressed that it still believes that the benefits of the vaccine outweigh the risks associated with it.

Earlier, the head of the health threats and vaccination strategy department of the European Medicines Agency, Marco Cavaleri, said that there is a link between the AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine and cases of thrombosis.
