Schwerin (dpa / mv) - The corona vaccinations for resident doctors have been well prepared in the practices in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and have largely started without any problems, according to the general practitioners' association.

“Patients are greatly relieved that they can get vaccinations from their general practitioner.

This saves them tedious registrations and long journeys to the vaccination centers, ”said the regional association chairman Stefan Zutz on Wednesday in Schwerin.

Since the vaccine is still very limited, the vaccination appointments were initially assigned primarily to members of the first priority group.

“In our group practice, most of the patients were significantly older than 80 years.

And it won't look any different in other practices, ”said Zutz.

The vast majority of the population knows and accepts the vaccination sequence.

According to the Ministry of Health in Schwerin, the medical practices in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania will receive 31,000 vaccine doses from the state from the manufacturer Astrazeneca this week.

In addition, there are 20,000 doses, mainly with vaccines from Biontech / Pfizer, which the federal government is also making available.

This means that an average of 50 doses are available to each of the approximately 1,000 general practitioners in the country.

According to Zutz, the total of around 1,700 general practitioners and specialists in the northeast can give around 150,000 vaccinations per week, provided that enough vaccine is available.

“It's an effort.

But it can be done, ”emphasized the doctor.

In order to achieve the target vaccination rate of around 70 percent, a total of 2.2 million doses must be administered in the country for first and second vaccinations.

According to the Robert Koch Institute, there have been around 270,000 vaccinations in the northeast since the campaign started in December.

The delivery of 300,000 vaccine doses is expected in April, which will be used in vaccination centers and doctors' offices.
