Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - North Rhine-Westphalian municipalities that have just come below a corona incidence of 100 will have to wait longer with immediate effect until they can loosen the "Corona emergency brake" again.

Despite the seven-day incidence, which has been stagnating or falling for a few days in many municipalities in North Rhine-Westphalia, “the emergency brake will not be lifted in any municipality for the time being,” said the NRW Ministry of Health on Wednesday.

This also applies to the districts of Olpe, Wesel and the Rhein-Sieg district, in which the incidence has been below the critical level of 100 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the past seven days for three days.

So far, this was the prerequisite for the state government to lift the emergency brake again.

From now on, this requires at least seven days with a weekly incidence of less than 100 and “a stable trend”.

"This requirement is not yet met in any of the" emergency brake municipalities ", the ministry stated.

"Even if the incidences are currently falling somewhat, according to many scientists we are still in the middle of the third wave," warned Health Minister Karl-Josef Laumann (CDU).

Therefore caution is advised.

“Going back and forth” when applying the emergency brake would also be something that people would have little understanding for.

That is why we want to watch the trend a little longer before we lift the emergency brake in municipalities. "

Laumann justified the extension of the waiting period with the fact that the previous three-day period also included the Easter days with partially restricted test and reporting processes.

The municipality in which the emergency brake is currently applied is listed in a general decree.

On Wednesday it contained 43 cities and counties.

NRW is not pulling the emergency brake according to national, but local corona numbers.

Only in municipalities with an incidence above 100, shops, sports facilities and cultural institutions, among other things, have to close.

The affected districts and urban districts may, however, allow exceptions for people with a daily negative quick test or self-test.

These must be coordinated with the Ministry of Health.
