Brussels / Munich (dpa) - The European Commission has agreed that Continental may buy the lighting control device division of its company Osram Continental, which has been operated jointly with Osram.

The planned takeover did not raise any competition concerns, the Brussels authority announced on Wednesday.

The two automotive suppliers had already announced the dissolution of the joint venture with headquarters in Munich in September.

The introduced areas with 1,500 employees at 14 locations should return to the company, it was said at the time.

Continental and Osram have so far each held half in the joint venture.

They justified the planned dissolution with a difficult market situation that had arisen due to weak global car production and the Corona crisis.

The joint venture founded in 2018 specializes in LED headlights, among other things.

In the division, which has now been approved for takeover, devices for controlling and monitoring the headlights are manufactured.
