Lüneburg (dpa / lni) - The Lower Saxony Association of Towns and Municipalities reacted with regret to the judgment of the Higher Administrative Court (OVG) Lüneburg on exit restrictions.

“We very much regret that it was not possible to effectively order the curfew in the Hanover region.

The curfew can be an effective means to get the increasing numbers of infections under control, but this serious intervention requires careful consideration, "said Thorsten Bullerdiek, spokesman for the Lower Saxony Association of Cities and Towns, on Wednesday of the German Press Agency.

It is now important to evaluate the judgment precisely and to work out the necessary criteria, taking into account the infection process.

"It would be very helpful if the country could give the health authorities clear decision-making criteria," he said.

The OVG had expressed considerable doubts about the means of curfew in the fight against Corona and confirmed the decision of the Hanover Administrative Court.

The exit restriction is not a necessary protective measure since it violates the principle of proportionality.

In addition, the OVG stated that the legal basis lies in the Federal Infection Protection Act and not just in the regional Corona ordinances.

The Hanover region thereupon lifted the corresponding general decree with immediate effect on Tuesday.

Previously, leaving apartments and houses there between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. was only allowed with a valid reason.
