On Tuesday, the Turkish Foreign Ministry summoned the Chinese ambassador to Ankara, to protest a tweet that was seen as a criticism of two opposition figures in Turkey.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry informed the Chinese ambassador in Ankara Liu Chau that it was disturbed by the embassy’s posts on social media criticizing the mayor of Ankara on the opposition People's Party, Mansur Yavas, and the leader of the Turkish Good Party, Miral Aksener.

The Chinese embassy had published a tweet - on its Twitter account - commenting on the tweets of Miral Akshinar and Mansour Yavas on the file of Uyghur Muslims.

The embassy strongly objected to their support for the cause of Uyghur Muslims, whom Beijing is accused of repressing and forcing them to convert.

The Chinese embassy said in its tweet that Beijing "firmly and strongly opposes any challenge by any person or force to China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and reserves the right to respond."
