Chemnitz (dpa / sn) - A young man is said to have stabbed a 39-year-old woman in the Chemnitz district of Altendorf.
The victim had informed the police on Tuesday that the 18-year-old was trying to break into her apartment in an apartment building, the police said on Wednesday.
On site, the officers met the suspect, who was slightly injured in the stairwell.
The 39-year-old was in her apartment with life-threatening injuries.
The alleged perpetrator was provisionally arrested.
According to initial investigations, the 18-year-old is said to have entered the woman's apartment by force and initially attacked her with irritant gas.
He is then said to have stabbed the woman who suffered life-threatening injuries and had to undergo emergency surgery in a hospital.
Initially, no information was given on possible motives and backgrounds for the crime.
