China News Service, Kashgar, Xinjiang, April 6th. Title: Visiting "Special Kindergarten" in Kashgar, Xinjiang: Retrieving the Sound of the World

China News Agency reporter Zhu Jingchao

In the early morning, the children, accompanied by their parents, entered the Comprehensive Service Center for the Disabled in Kashgar, Xinjiang.

The children studying here are all 0-6 years old, 58 of whom have varying degrees of hearing impairment.

The teacher enters the classroom 20 minutes earlier than the students. After the disinfection and sterilization, the students in the class will be checked in the morning: check whether the cochlear implants and hearing aids are working properly, whether there are hard objects in the pockets of the clothes, and measure the body temperature.

Mirebani Guli is a teacher of the "Apple Class", and the students in this class are 4-6 years old.

The reporter walked into the classroom and saw the children sitting in a semicircle, listening to the teacher's roll call to see their reaction.

Play the music again, turn off the music, and turn off repeatedly for the children to recognize.

Then there is pronunciation practice.

"A, i, u, m, s, sh", Mirebani Guli said, these six sounds cover high, medium and low audio frequencies, which are very important for training hearing ability, pronunciation ability, and language ability.

The 5-year-old Nasrula was very active in the class and sang songs in front of the teacher: "Only Mother is Good in the World" and "Two Little Mice". He spoke accurately and pronounced well.

Due to congenital hearing impairment, Nasrula performed cochlear implant surgery under the funding of the national project in 2019.

He couldn't hear the sound before and could only express by gesture.

After the operation, he heard the voice. After one year of online rehabilitation training in 2020, he can now communicate with his family normally, and his personality has become much more cheerful.

"Before the operation, I was worried: can the family's economic conditions be affordable, and what is the effect?" His mother, Meire Yamu, told reporters that the operation is free and the child's progress is much better than expected.

Cochlear implants or wearing hearing aids solve the problem of hearing, but to be able to speak requires persistent scientific training.

Ru Xian Guli, deputy director of the Comprehensive Service Center for the Disabled in Kashgar, said that students have to teach collectively in language, science, health, and art every day, which is no different from classes in ordinary kindergartens.

In addition, there is "individualized training". The teacher will give each student a one-to-one diagnostic teaching according to their hearing, pronunciation, language, cognition, communication and other characteristics, according to their age, personality, hobbies and other characteristics. .

Millsman used to be a midwife in a hospital. Because her hearing-impaired child successfully recovered, she also became the hearing management teacher of this kindergarten—testing the child's hearing, fitting hearing aids, and making ear molds.

"The child was diagnosed with hearing impairment in the ninth month, and there was no response to calling her name." She and her husband were confused for a while.

In October 2016, benefiting from the “Colorful Rainbow” national project, he wears hearing aids for his children's ears for free. He entered the kindergarten for rehabilitation in March 2017, passed various tests in 2019, and graduated from the kindergarten.

Currently, I am transitioning to an ordinary kindergarten in Kashgar, and I will go to elementary school in September this year.

“It’s easy for children to forget what they learn in school during the day. I play the sounds from the teaching database to the child every night, and I repeatedly teach her about daily necessities and review what she has learned during the day.” She said, “I got the teacher here, that’s In order to share my experiences and methods with other parents, so that children have a bright future."

As Xianguli said, it is the mission of this "special kindergarten" to let children hear and say that they can leave the kindergarten to go to school and integrate into the society. However, the love and patience of the teachers for this is hard to imagine.

Zhou Shicheng, secretary of the party group and vice chairman of the Kashgar Disabled Persons’ Federation, said in an interview with a reporter from China News Agency that the students come from all counties and cities in Kashgar.

The rehabilitation period of students is generally 10 months. During the rehabilitation period, meals, accommodation and training are all free.

In addition to national project funding, the participation of aid to Xinjiang provinces and cities, charitable foundations, and social forces ignited the fire of happiness for these unfortunate children.
