Radebeul (dpa / sn) - The Saxon Teachers' Association is expressly in favor of holding the Abitur exams at a level comparable to that of previous years.

Suspending the written exams would put high school graduates at a disadvantage when applying for a study or training position, said association chairman Jens Weichelt on Tuesday.

A “Corona Abitur” in the 2020/2021 school year should not suffer any disadvantages for high school graduates.

Previously, the Education and Science Union (GEW) had suggested that Abi exams should be canceled if necessary and that the school grades last achieved should be included in the examination certificates.

"The aim of all final exams must be that every student has the best possible chance to acquire a recognized school leaving certificate," says Weichelt.

Such a degree must be fully recognized.

A “Corona Abitur” would very soon be considered second class.

The Abitur exams in Saxony took place last year, despite the corona pandemic, largely without any problems and with similar results as in previous years, the SLV chairman estimated.

In this school year, the requirements for high school graduates are no worse: The final classes have been back to face-to-face classes since January 18, 2021, and the students spent a total of around three weeks studying at home.

"In addition, the Saxon State Ministry for Culture has made it easier for the Abitur exams," underlined Weichelt.
