The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has appeared this Tuesday in La Moncloa, after the meeting of the Council of Ministers, to address the vaccination plan in Spain.

The Government bases its entire strategy and unit of action on two axes: vaccine and economic recovery.

But Moncloa is aware that the second is not possible without the first.

Hence, Sánchez has promised his word that "at the end of August" 70% of Spaniards are vaccinated.

Sánchez has stated that Spain will receive 87 million doses of vaccines between April and September and that "at the end of August 70% of adults are immunized thanks to the vaccine at the end of August".

Sánchez's announcement comes after the finding that Spain has failed to meet the goal of reaching the month of April with 80% of those over 80 years vaccinated, which was the forecast set by the European Union.

And it is that according to the data offered by the Ministry of Health at the end of March, a dose had been supplied to 70.8% of this group of the population and the complete schedule -the two doses-, to 40.2% .

And this despite the fact that People born in 1941 or earlier make up one of the priority groups in the National Vaccination Strategy, since international research indicates that SARS-CoV-2 attacks them more strongly.

They are administered the mRNA-based vaccines, that is, those from Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna.

This situation causes people between 70 and 79 years old to find themselves in a kind of limbo, since until the vaccination of the group over 80 years of age in the communities is not completed, they will not start with them.

Official Health data, dated April 2, revealed that only 171,548 people in this age group had received at least one dose of the vaccine.

And only 109,733 were immunized (they had received both doses).

It is expected that from this second quarter the vaccination rate will increase.

Carolina Darias, the Minister of Health, assured this Monday, after Spain received a shipment of 1,200,000 doses of the vaccine from Pfizer, that "this will be the frequency of arrival every Monday during the month of April."
