Karlsruhe (dpa / lsw) - The Bremen party researcher Lothar Probst sees good reasons for the CDU in the southwest to approach the Greens in the coalition negotiations.

"The Greens are now able to play the cook, the CDU is in the role of the waiter," he said in an interview with the "Badische Neuesten Nachrichten" (Tuesday).

Green-black in Baden-Württemberg could work better this time.

From his point of view, however, such a coalition in the southwest has only a limited signaling effect on the federal level.

Baden-Württemberg has special circumstances.

"At the federal level, the Greens will do a devil to promote green-black as a model," said Probst.

Three weeks after the state elections, the Greens and CDU in Baden-Württemberg have set the course for a re-launch of their coalition.

Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) and CDU state chief Thomas Strobl said at the weekend after the last exploratory meeting in Stuttgart that they wanted to make Baden-Württemberg the leading “climate protection state” in Germany.

After the clear victory of the Greens, Kretschmann left no doubt as to who is in charge of the alliance: "Now we have a clear claim to leadership."

The coalition negotiations are due to begin next Thursday.

On May 12, the 72-year-old Green wants to be elected head of government for the third time.
