Stuttgart (AP) - FDP leader Christian Lindner sees the decision of the Greens in favor of green-black coalition negotiations and against a traffic light alliance in Baden-Württemberg.

"Decisions for or against coalitions have to be respected," said Lindner of the "Süddeutsche Zeitung" (Tuesday).

He can understand that Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) plans of his party can rather "implement with the existing but weakened coalition partner CDU".

The Greens and the CDU in Baden-Württemberg agreed on negotiations three weeks after the state elections.

They are supposed to start after Easter.

Previously, Kretschmann had vehemently campaigned for a new edition of the coalition.

In the Greens executive committee, however, there were forces who would rather form a traffic light with the SPD and FDP.

The Greens and the CDU now want to vote on the result on May 8 at separate state party conferences.

On May 12th, Kretschmann wants to be elected Prime Minister for the third time.

Marco Buschmann, first parliamentary managing director of the FDP parliamentary group, called the foreseeable re-edition of the green-black coalition "regrettable".

A cooperation with the FDP would have done Baden-Württemberg "certainly better than the loser CDU, who is first busy licking his wounds internally, than bringing the country forward," he told the "SZ".
