Kassel (dpa / lhe) - Because of the corona pandemic, the city of Kassel only remembers Halit Yozgat, a Kassel citizen, who was allegedly murdered by the National Socialist underground NSU this year.

The murder of the Turkish-born Internet cafe owner was celebrated for the 15th time on Tuesday.

"This was a dark and sad day in the history of our city and our constitutional state," said Mayor Christian Geselle (SPD) about the act at a memorial event by the city and Yozgats family.

On April 6, 2006, Yozgat in the district of North Holland was allegedly shot as a victim of a series of murders.

"These attacks not only violently tore loved ones to their deaths, they were also attacks on our democracy," said Geselle.

The Consul General of Turkey in Frankfurt, Erdem Tunçer, emphasized: "On the 15th anniversary of the murder of Halit Yozgat by the NSU, we again condemn right-wing extremist and racist terror in the strongest possible way."

The terrorists Uwe Mundlos and Uwe Böhnhardt, who murdered ten people between 2000 and 2007, called themselves NSU.

Her victims were eight small business owners of Turkish origin, one of Greek origin, and one policewoman.

The accomplice Beate Zschäpe was convicted in 2018.

Mundlos and Böhnhardt committed suicide in 2011.
