Japan's own sanctions against North Korea, which expires on April 13, will be extended for another two years by the government on the 6th, saying that no concrete progress has been made due to issues such as nuclear weapons, missiles, and abduction issues. It was decided by the Cabinet meeting.

Following the nuclear test and ballistic missile launch by North Korea, the government has implemented Japan's own sanctions since 2006, including measures to completely ban imports and exports and North Korean-registered vessels. The measures to ban the entry of the port will expire on April 13.

Regarding this, the government extended sanctions for another two years, saying that North Korea launched a total of two ballistic missiles in March, and that no concrete progress has been made due to issues such as nuclear weapons, missiles, and abduction issues. It was decided at the Cabinet meeting on the 6th.

The government is one of the main agenda items at the Japan-US summit meeting in Washington on April 16 local time, given that the U.S. Biden administration is near and is scheduled to complete a review of its policy toward North Korea. As a result, we are going to take up the North Korean issue, and we will work with the United States to respond to a comprehensive solution to various issues.
