Mainz (dpa / lrs) - The police and public order offices in Rhineland-Palatinate found a total of around 1200 violations of the applicable Corona regulations between Maundy Thursday and Easter Monday.

Despite the violations, the police found understanding of the measures among the majority of citizens, said the Rhineland-Palatinate Interior Minister Roger Lewentz (SPD) on Tuesday in Mainz.

Among other things, around 350 violations of the applicable exit restrictions and around 350 unauthorized gatherings of people in public spaces were registered.

In addition, the obligation to wear a mouth and nose cover had been violated 240 times.

150 violations related to the obligation to keep the minimum distance.

Criminal proceedings for bodily harm had been initiated against a restaurant visitor in Trier.

The man took a seat with other people on a terrace of a restaurant without being able to show a negative corona test.

When the manager asked the group to leave the restaurant, the man slapped the manager in the face.


On a former military site in Prüm, around 20 people also celebrated in a radar station with music, laser show, smoke machine and alcoholic beverages.

Appropriate proceedings have been initiated against the organizer and the guests present.

According to the Interior Ministry, a total of around 2,700 controls were carried out, for which around 600 additional police officers were deployed.

Due to the sometimes beautiful weather, many people went to excursion destinations, especially on Good Friday.
