Saarbrücken (dpa) - For the first time, an entire federal state is starting as a corona model project: In Saarland, outdoor restaurants, cinemas, theaters, fitness studios and tennis halls are allowed to reopen from Tuesday.

The prerequisite for guests and users is usually a negative rapid test that must not be older than 24 hours.

In addition, up to ten people can meet outdoors if they have tested negative.

With the "Saarland Model", the state government wants to give citizens more freedom again.

"After a year of pandemic, we have to think of more than just closing and restricting," Saarland's Prime Minister Tobias Hans (CDU) said.

And: "With the Saarland model, no corona infection should go undetected."

The project is possible because Saarland is very well positioned when it comes to vaccination and testing, even in a national comparison.

The project will run as long as the 7-day incidence of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants is stable below 100.

If the incidence rises above it, use a traffic light system - with an expanded test obligation (yellow) through to an emergency brake with a consequent lockdown.

On Sunday the incidence was 88.2.
