London (AP) - With his new glasses, Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp awakened memories of another, famous idol of the city.

The retro frame that the 53-year-old wore in the clear 3-0 win against Arsenal is similar to the glasses that became a trademark for ex-Beatle John Lennon.

And maybe it brought Klopp a little luck too.

In London, the English football champions Liverpool finally showed a masterful performance - and want to take the momentum into the Champions League quarter-finals on Tuesday (9 p.m.) at Spanish champion Real Madrid.

It is the first time that the two European heavyweights - Liverpool have six and Real 13 titles - have faced each other since the infamous Champions League final on May 26, 2018.

And Liverpool are looking for revenge after the unfortunate 3-1 defeat in Kiev.

"That was a tough evening for us," said Klopp immediately after the draw was drawn in March, "so it's cool for us that we have the opportunity to play against them again."

Anticipation also for star striker Mohamed Salah, who scored a goal at Arsenal for the first time since Liverpool's 2-0 round of 16 victory over RB Leipzig on Saturday.

"Let's just say I have a special motivation to win the game and reach the semi-finals," said the Egyptian before the eagerly awaited duel between the European Cup giants of the Spanish newspaper "Marca".

In 2018, Salah was replaced in the Olympic Stadium after just half an hour because he was injured in a duel with Real's captain Sergio Ramos.

On top of that, Ramos later hit Loris Karius on the head with his elbow.

The goalkeeper, who is currently on loan for 1. FC Union Berlin, then made two serious mistakes that led to goals being conceded.

“What happens now (in the quarter-finals) won't change the outcome of the final in Kiev.

The game is over, ”said Salah, also downplaying the reunion with Ramos.

“Everyone thinks about their own team and everyone wants to win.

That's all."

In the first leg, the Real captain is missing from his team due to an injury anyway.

The use of the ailing top performers Fede Valverde and Eden Hazard is also questionable.

Coach Zinedine Zidane, who won the competition three times in a row with Real in 2016, 2017 and 2018, is still hopeful.

"We suffered a lot this year, but now we're enjoying our good form," said the Frenchman after the 2-0 win over SD Eibar, in which Los Blancos did not shine, but were convincing nonetheless.

Toni Kroos & Co.'s shape curve is actually pointing upwards.

Most recently there have been four wins in a row, and Madrid have been unbeaten in eleven games.

You have more self-confidence, assured Zidane.

Liverpool has had that again since Saturday at the latest.

There was no sign of a crisis in the 3-0 win against Arsenal.

The injured situation also improves.

And the substitute Diogo Jota, whom the Reds had sorely missed at the beginning of the year, recommended himself with two goals for the starting line-up in Madrid, where the teams against each other this time in the Alfredo Di Stéfano Stadium due to the pandemic and the renovation at the Bernabeu play.

Liverpool is now back in the race for the Champions League places in the Premier League.

There would be another way to qualify for next season in the premier class - with Liverpool winning the competition this year like 2019.

With a strong final spurt, the Klopp-Elf could perhaps still successfully conclude the difficult season, which was already considered totally screwed up.
