Navalny has stated that he suffers from a severe cough and fever, but that he continues his hunger strike.

He has also demanded adequate medical care.

Navalny states that three out of 15 prisoners in the prison where he is being held are being treated for tuberculosis.

Authorities have not commented on reports of an outbreak of tuberculosis among the detainees.

Navalny began the hunger strike on Wednesday.

One reason was that the doctors who cared for him in prison only gave him painkillers for severe back pain and numbness in his legs.

A support group for Navalny says it will demonstrate outside the prison on Tuesday if he does not receive proper care.

State media, in turn, claim that he is exaggerating his health problems to get attention.

The IK-2 prison is located ten kilometers east of Moscow.

Skip release

In January this year, Navalny was given a suspended sentence of just over two and a half years in prison.

At the same time, his movement states that there is hope of being able to get him released earlier than that.

The international support for Navalny is great.

in mid-March, 45 countries urged Russia to release the regime critic.

A statement read out at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva called for the release of Navalny and the investigation into last year's poisoning.

The signatories were mainly European countries, but the USA, Canada, Australia and Japan have also signed.
