Vaccines arrive in Italy

In Italy so far 14 million doses of vaccine have arrived and by June 48 million are expected.

The 14 million vaccines delivered represent half of the 28 million under the contracts.

Pfizer

sent the agreed 8.7 million doses by March 31, with some intermediate delays.

Moderna

delivered the 1.3 million doses agreed upon.

AstraZeneca

delivered just a quarter or 4 million of the promised 16 million doses.

In this

month of April,

8 million doses of the vaccine are expected to be delivered to Italy, i.e. almost 20% of all arrivals scheduled for the second quarter (April-June) of 2021, over 40 million doses.

Compared to the National Plan, it will not be possible to count on over 7 million doses of

Curevac

, a vaccine not yet approved.

The new

Johnson & Johnson

single-dose vaccine

will be distributed in Europe from 19 April and 400,000 doses are initially planned for Italy.

The 8 million doses of the current month, including those of Moderna, are considered insufficient by the Regions to reach the 500,000 doses scheduled for the end of April.

At the current rate - 240,000 vaccinations per day on average, the peak with over 291,000 on 31 March - herd immunity would only be achieved at the beginning of 2022. In Italy up to now almost 79% of the vaccination points have been administered in 2,105 vaccination points. of the doses available, according to the data on the Government website.
