- We saw how the house can be after renovation and then we felt that we must have it, says Emelie Holmgren.

Now they have started the renovation and in two years they hope to be able to move in.

- From the beginning we said that we can move in in 10 years, then it was five years and then a year.

But then I said stop, because it is not possible, says Robert Mattisson.

Great interest in desolate houses

The house is located in Lessebo municipality which recently started a project where they identified 150 desolate houses.

Now the municipality is working to try to get the houses inhabited and the interest has been unusually large.

Now at the end of March, about 150 people contacted the municipality and showed interest.

Emelie and Robert have been looking for a country house for several years and they have noticed that the interest is great.

The asking price for their house was just over SEK 200,000, but the price tripled during the bidding.

- I think more people want to move out of cities to nature and tranquility.

It is a completely different environment with a completely different freedom, says Robert Mattisson.

And Emelie fills in.

- It feels like it's time to live in the country.

You should grow a little and preferably be self-sufficient.

I think things like consumerism, environmental thinking and corona all come into play, she says.
