A banal family canoe trip on Sunday on the Doubs turned into a tragedy.

The boat overturned in the early afternoon near Baume-les-Dames and the father drowned, reports L'Est Républicain.

The man, 44 years old and who had not put on a life jacket, could not be resuscitated in time by the firefighters.

His 3 and a half year old boy was saved from water at 10 ° C thanks to his life jacket and the intervention of the emergency services.

He was rushed to hospital, as the couple's mother and another 11-year-old child helplessly watched the tragedy.
