Geislingen (dpa / lsw) - A 32-year-old is said to have beaten and slightly injured his wife in Geislingen (Göppingen district).

The couple's 13-year-old son first reported a dispute to the police, officials said on Monday.

Shortly afterwards he dialed the emergency number again and said that the father had struck in the meantime.

The reason for the dispute on Easter Sunday was probably the recurring alcohol abuse of the 32-year-old.

The alerted policemen expelled the man from the apartment.

When relatives came to pick him up, he fled on foot.

Since the officers could not rule out that the 32-year-old was hurting himself, they took him into custody.

Rescue workers then took him to a psychiatric hospital.

The man is being investigated for assault.

In 2020, 13,833 people were victims of domestic violence in Baden-Württemberg.

Four out of five victims are female.

According to the country's safety report, domestic violence killed 24 people, including 19 women.

Thirteen children also died from violence in their own families.
