Munich (dpa) - Defense veteran Jérôme Boateng has to leave FC Bayern Munich after ten successful years in the summer after "kicker" information.

The contract with the 32-year-old central defender, which expires at the end of the season, will not be extended, reports the specialist magazine.

The board of directors of FC Bayern München AG recently made this definitive decision.

Boateng's advisor has already been informed that the contract with the former national player will not be extended.

Boateng moved from Manchester City to the Isar in the summer of 2011.

The defense strategist was then part of the most successful Bayern team for ten years - in 2013 and 2020 he won the triple.

Since 2013 he has conquered the titles in series with the star ensemble and was in the 2014 World Cup final against Argentina (1-0).

National coach Joachim Löw retired him in March 2019, as did the Rio world champions Thomas Müller and Mats Hummels from the national team.

Boateng himself has not yet commented on his future.
