The Easter weekend has been hectic for the police and rescue services.

Eight snowmobile accidents have occurred.

One person has died, several have walked through the ice and a young man was found after almost 20 hours in the mountains.

- There are many who got up at Easter and are going out to drive.

You have ideas of what it should look like in the mountains, but it has been mild.

The ice and the joints carry badly.

It is important to be vigilant, says Stenlund.

Serious accidents in Gällivare

The most serious accidents have occurred in Gällivare.

During the night towards Friday, an accident occurred outside Ullati.

A man in his 50s was flown by ambulance helicopter to hospital where he was taken to the intensive care unit.

On the night before Sunday, the next serious accident occurred when a man in his 40s died.

Another person was taken to hospital in connection with the accident.

Relatives of the man have been notified and the police are now investigating the incident.

- The scooter has been seized and the accident site documented, says Åsa Mjörndal, press spokesperson at the police in the North region.

"This year is not like other years"

Police inspectors Fredrik Marklund and Johan Stenlund have been patrolling the Ammarnäs mountains for 16 years and say that the ice is "very bad" as the early snow isolated the first thin ice.

- It is very easy to fall over.

If you go too far out on the trail, it just cuts down.

If there is something in the way - stone or tree, it will stop, says Johan Stenlund.

Injured driver was found after hours

In Umeå, a man was taken to hospital by ambulance helicopter after overturning a scooter 20 km north of Vännäs on Sunday morning.

The man is said to have been at the scene for two hours before and was found by a passing newspaper courier.

Young man was found after a night in the mountains

The police inspectors in Ammarnäsfjällen are now urging everyone who is going out and driving not to do it alone - and to leave a driving description to someone.

A young man was found after being away for almost 20 hours in Arjeplog municipality.

The search lasted all night before he was found by helicopter.

- He had got stuck and did not get out of there.

It is quite insidious before and does not wear.

That is the problem, says police inspector Johan Stenlund.

In both Piteå and Skellefteå, people have driven through the treacherous ice.

Snowmobile drivers are suspected of animal cruelty

An injured reindeer was found in Pajala municipality on Saturday and the police now suspect that a snowmobile driver drove the reindeer on purpose.

- It is macabre in my world that innocent animals are exposed to such crimes, says Anders Malmström at the police in Northern Lapland.
